Transvulcania is an annual ultramarathon held since 2009 on the island of La Palma in Spain's Canary Islands. The 73-kilometer point-to-point course begins at the Fuencaliente lighthouse in the south, climbs to the Roque de los Muchachos summit at 2,421 meters, and descends to the finish in Los Llanos de Aridane. The race traverses volcanic terrain and has been part of both the Skyrunner World Series and the UTMB World Series at various points in its history.

Faro de Fuencaliente
The race begins at the historic Fuencaliente Lighthouse on the southern tip of La Palma, at sea level beside the Atlantic Ocean. Runners head north onto volcanic terrain along the GR 131 long-distance trail.

A key checkpoint and crew access point at approximately 1,450 meters elevation, surrounded by Canary Island pine forest. This marks the transition from the lower volcanic slopes to the high mountain terrain.

Caldera de Taburiente Rim
The route traverses the rim of the Caldera de Taburiente, a massive erosion crater and national park. Runners pass above the clouds with views into the 8-kilometer-wide caldera below.

The highest point of La Palma at 2,421 meters and the course summit. Home to one of the world's premier astronomical observatories, this point marks the beginning of a long, steep descent.

Puerto de Tazacorte
After a punishing descent of nearly 2,000 meters from the summit, runners reach this coastal town on the western shore. The course transitions from the GR 131 to the GR 130 coastal path for the final stretch.

The finish line in the Plaza de Espana in Los Llanos de Aridane, the island's largest town. The final kilometers include a climb up a dry riverbed and a steep 400-meter ascent before flattening out to the plaza.
