THE STORY

Dakota Jones is an American mountain runner based in Bozeman, Montana. He announced himself in 2011 with a second place finish at the Hardrock 100 and won the 2012 Transvulcania Ultramarathon in 6:59:07 while still in his early twenties, adding a runner-up finish at the North Face Endurance Challenge in the same period.

His later career has shown unusual range. He won the Pikes Peak Marathon in 2018, took the Javelina Jundred in 12:58:02 in 2022, and returned to La Palma in 2023 to win Transvulcania again in 7:02:16, eleven years after his first title there.

Away from racing, Jones pairs the sport with climate advocacy. He studied mechanical engineering at Montana State University, works with the climate nonprofit Protect Our Winters, and founded Footprints Running Camp, which connects young trail runners with environmental projects. He races for NNormal.
