Miguel Heras is a Spanish ultra trail runner from Béjar, in the province of Salamanca, whose career spans two decades at the front of European mountain racing. Born on August 7, 1975, he is the younger brother of Roberto Heras, the four-time Vuelta a España winner. He came to trail running from climbing, mountain biking and orienteering, and joined Salomon in September 2006 while competing at the adventure racing world championships in Canada.
His breakthrough came in 2010, when he won Transvulcania on La Palma, the 123-kilometer Transgrancanaria and Ultra Pirineu in the same season, along with the North Face Endurance Challenge in San Francisco. He defended his Transvulcania title in 2011 in 7:32:11 and added wins at the Ronda dels Cims in Andorra, the Zugspitz Ultra Trail and a second Ultra Pirineu that year. He finished second at UTMB in 2013.
Heras has won Ultra Pirineu at least five times, with titles in 2010, 2011, 2015, 2016 and 2022, the last of them in 10:38:53 at the age of 47. He won the Grand Trail des Templiers in 2016 and the Ultra Sierra Nevada in 2017 and 2018, and finished second at Ultra Pirineu again in 2023.
After more than 17 years with Salomon, he signed with the Spanish brand Joma in January 2024 and continues to race.
