THE STORY

Peres Jepchirchir is a Kenyan marathoner and one of the most decorated championship racers in the history of women's road running. She won the Olympic marathon title at the Tokyo Games in 2021, then added the world championship marathon gold in Tokyo in 2025, outsprinting Tigst Assefa on the streets of the Japanese capital.

Jepchirchir built her reputation as a half marathoner first, winning world half marathon titles in 2016 and 2020. Over the full distance she has won three World Marathon Majors, taking New York in 2021, Boston in 2022, and London in 2024.

Her London victory came in 2:16:16, a world record for a women-only race, and stands as her personal best. Most of her biggest wins have come in tactical races decided in the closing stages.
