The Western States 100-Mile Endurance Run is the world's oldest 100-mile trail race, traversing the Sierra Nevada from Olympic Valley to Auburn. Runners cross rugged mountain terrain, deep canyons, and raging rivers in what many consider the most prestigious ultramarathon on Earth.

Olympic Valley Start
The race begins at the base of Palisades Tahoe ski resort. Runners climb 2,550 feet in the first 4.5 miles to Emigrant Pass at 8,750ft — the highest point on the course.

Foresthill
The gateway to the canyons. Runners arrive at the Foresthill aid station where crews can meet them. The famous road section provides a brief respite before the brutal canyon descents ahead.

Rucky Chucky River Crossing
The iconic waist-deep crossing of the American River. In high-water years, runners are ferried across by raft. In low-water years, they wade through the cold, fast-moving current.

No Hands Bridge
A historic railroad bridge over the American River Canyon. By this point, runners have been going for 20+ hours and the bridge signals the final push to Auburn.

Auburn Finish
The finish at Placer High School track in Auburn. Runners who finish under 24 hours earn a silver belt buckle; under 30 hours earns a bronze buckle.
