The Moab 240 is an annual 240-mile (386km) trail ultramarathon held each October in Moab, Utah, starting and finishing in downtown Moab. Established in 2017 by race director Candice Burt, the loop course traverses desert canyons and the Abajo and La Sal mountain ranges with 31,564 feet of cumulative elevation gain. The race has a 117-hour time limit and is part of the Destination Trail Triple Crown series.

Downtown Moab Start
The race begins and ends on the streets of downtown Moab, Utah, a small desert town on the Colorado River. Runners depart at the start of October amid red rock canyon scenery.

Colorado River Canyon
The early miles follow the Colorado River corridor through canyon country, passing near Potash evaporation ponds and towering sandstone walls. This section offers dramatic desert scenery before the course turns south.

Canyonlands Terrain
Runners traverse high desert terrain near Canyonlands National Park, navigating sandstone benches and washes with expansive views across canyon country. The remote landscape offers little shade and demands careful navigation.

Abajo Mountains
The course climbs into the Abajo Mountains, also called the Blue Mountains, reaching elevations above 11,000 feet. This alpine section provides a dramatic contrast to the surrounding desert and is the highest terrain in the southern half of the loop.

The La Sal Mountains form the highest point of the course, with peaks exceeding 12,000 feet. Runners gain significant elevation crossing this range before descending back toward the canyon country surrounding Moab.

Behind the Rocks Finish Approach
The final miles pass through the Behind the Rocks Wilderness Study Area, a maze of Navajo sandstone fins and slickrock just southwest of Moab. Runners descend back into town to complete the 240-mile loop.
