THE STORY

Dawit Wolde is an Ethiopian marathoner from Debre Zeyit who spent the first decade of his career as a 1500 metres specialist. He won bronze in the 1500m at the 2007 World Youth Championships, ran at the 2012 and 2016 Olympic Games, and finished fifth at the 2016 World Indoor Championships. His track best of 3:33.82 dates from 2012.

Wolde moved to the roads late and proved just as effective there. He broke 60 minutes for the half marathon with a 59:58 best set in 2020 and won the 2019 Prague International Marathon in 2:06:18. In 2023 he lowered his marathon best to 2:03:48, a time that lifted him as high as sixth in the World Athletics marathon rankings.

He has since become a fixture at the Xiamen Marathon, winning the 2025 edition in 2:06:06 and defending his title in 2026 in 2:09:18.
