Lemi Berhanu is an Ethiopian marathoner best known for winning the 2016 Boston Marathon. Born on 13 September 1994, he won his debut marathon in Zurich in 2014 in 2:10:40, then beat a deep field to win the Dubai Marathon the following January in 2:05:28.
At the 2016 Boston Marathon he broke away from defending champion Lelisa Desisa in the final mile and won in 2:12:45, with a 47-second gap back to second. The victory completed an Ethiopian sweep of the titles alongside women's winner Atsede Baysa. His personal best stands at 2:04:33.
Berhanu added a win at the Xiamen Marathon in China in January 2017, finishing in 2:08:27. He also represented Ethiopia in the marathon at the 2015 World Championships in Beijing, where he placed 15th.
