The Patagonia Run is South America's premier 100-mile ultramarathon and a UTMB World Series event, circling the breathtaking wilderness around San Martin de los Andes in the Argentine Andes. Runners traverse ancient Araucaria forests, cross Patagonian steppe, ford glacial streams, and climb volcanic ridgelines with views of the snow-capped Lanin volcano. The race combines extreme remoteness with dramatic Andean scenery in one of the world's most stunning trail settings.

The race launches from the charming lakeside town of San Martin de los Andes at the foot of the Andes. Runners head into the Lanin National Park on forest trails alongside the crystalline waters of Lake Lacar.

Lanin Volcano Viewpoint
The course climbs to high ridgelines offering jaw-dropping panoramic views of the snow-capped Lanin volcano (3,776m). The exposed volcanic terrain and scree fields demand careful footing as runners navigate above the treeline.

Araucaria Forest
Deep in the heart of the course, runners pass through ancient forests of Araucaria araucana (monkey puzzle trees) — prehistoric conifers that have survived since the dinosaur era. The gnarled silhouettes against the Andean sky are hauntingly beautiful.

The course descends from the forested mountains onto the open Patagonian steppe. Runners face exposed grasslands where the infamous Patagonian winds can reach gale force, creating one of the race's most mentally challenging sections.
