THE STORY

Titus Ekiru is a Kenyan road runner born on 2 January 1992 in Turkana County. He grew up in poverty, dropping out of primary school before spending roughly 15 years playing football. He turned to competitive running around 2016 and transitioned directly to the marathon distance.

Ekiru won at Seville in 2017 and claimed back-to-back wins at the Mexico City Marathon and Honolulu Marathon in 2018. He ran his personal best of 2:04:46 at the 2019 Milan City Marathon, setting a course record, and won the Honolulu Marathon again later that year.

In October 2023, the Athletics Integrity Unit issued Ekiru a 10-year ban, effective 28 June 2022, following two positive tests at the 2021 Milan Marathon and 2021 Abu Dhabi Marathon. All results from 16 May 2021 were disqualified. He is ineligible to compete until 27 June 2032.
