Sutume Asefa Kebede

Sutume Asefa Kebede is an Ethiopian marathon runner, born on December 11, 1994, who won the Tokyo Marathon in 2024 and 2025. Her personal best of 2:15:55, set in Tokyo on March 3, 2024, is a Japanese all-comers record and the course record, and it placed her eighth on the world all-time list at the time.

Kebede won the Beijing Marathon in 2019 in 2:23:31 and finished third in Tokyo in 2020. She was second in Seoul in 2022, where she set her previous best, and won the Tata Steel Kolkata 25K in 2023 and the Houston Half Marathon in January 2024.

Her 2024 Tokyo win took more than two minutes off her personal best. She defended the title in 2025 in 2:16:31, becoming the first woman to win Tokyo in consecutive years, and finished fourth in Tokyo in March 2026 as Brigid Kosgei won in 2:14:29. She is sponsored by On.
