THE STORY

Born 12 December 1992, Paul Lonyangata is a Kenyan marathon runner who twice won the Paris Marathon and established himself among the top road racers of his generation. He is married to fellow professional runner Purity Cherotich Rionoripo.

Lonyangata ran successive victories at the Paris Marathon in 2017 (2:06:10, his personal best) and 2018 (2:06:25). He also won the Shanghai Marathon twice (2015, 2019) and set a course record in Taipei in 2020 (2:09:18). In February 2022, he received a 19-month suspension after testing positive for Furosemide, a prohibited diuretic. He returned to competition in May 2023 and won the Honolulu Marathon in December of that year.

Won the Honolulu Marathon in 2:15:42 in December 2023, his first victory since completing his doping suspension.
