Buzunesh Deba is an Ethiopian-born marathoner who has lived and trained in the Bronx, New York, for most of her professional career. She is best known as the rightful winner of the 2014 Boston Marathon, a title she received in December 2016 after original winner Rita Jeptoo was disqualified for doping.
Deba's winning time of 2:19:59 stood as the Boston Marathon course record for over a decade until Sharon Lokedi broke it in 2025. It remains the only sub-2:20 women's performance in race history. She is also a two-time New York City Marathon runner-up.
She continues to train with her husband and coach Worku Beyi out of the Bronx.
