Adam Peterman is an American ultra-distance and trail runner from Missoula, Montana, who emerged as one of the sport's defining talents in 2022. Born on August 11, 1995, he ran cross country and track at Hellgate High School before earning a scholarship to the University of Colorado Boulder, where he competed in the steeplechase and was part of the 2014 NCAA Division I cross country championship team. He graduated magna cum laude with degrees in environmental studies and geology.
Peterman announced himself to the trail community at the 2021 JFK 50 Mile, which he won in 5:19:38. In 2022 he put together one of the strongest seasons in American trail running, taking the Chuckanut 50K, the Canyons 100K, and the Western States 100 in his 100-mile debut, then winning individual and team gold in the 80km race at the World Mountain and Trail Running Championships in Chiang Mai, Thailand. USATF named him a 2022 Mountain Ultra Trail Runner of the Year.
A sacral stress fracture and subsequent surgery sidelined him for most of 2023. He returned in 2024, finishing third in the CCC by UTMB in Chamonix in 10:28:50. In 2026 he won the Canyons 100K a second time in 8:18:47. Peterman is sponsored by Hoka and is coached by himself after working under Mark Wetmore and Heather Burroughs in college.
