A World Trail Majors race that opens the global ultrarunning season each January, the Hong Kong 100 runs across the legendary MacLehose Trail from Sai Kung to Tuen Mun. The course traverses rugged coastal mountains, dense subtropical forests, and exposed ridgelines above Victoria Harbour, with over 4,500 meters of climbing packed into 103 kilometers.

Pak Tam Chung Start
The race begins at the Pak Tam Chung Visitor Centre in Sai Kung East Country Park, the starting point of the MacLehose Trail. Runners set off in the pre-dawn darkness, headlamps piercing through the subtropical forest canopy.

Runners pass near Sharp Peak (Sai Kung's iconic pyramid-shaped mountain) along exposed ridgelines with panoramic views of the South China Sea and the Sai Kung peninsula's jagged coastline.

Maclehose Stage 4 — Ma On Shan
The course climbs Ma On Shan, one of the toughest ascents on the MacLehose Trail. At 702 meters, the summit offers sweeping views of Tolo Harbour and the New Territories, but the steep rocky stairs exact a heavy toll on the legs.

Back-to-back climbs over Needle Hill and Grassy Hill in the central New Territories test runners in the second half. The exposed grassland ridges are often battered by wind, and the relentless up-and-down profile begins to separate the field.

Tai Mo Shan & Tuen Mun Finish
The trail skirts the flanks of Tai Mo Shan (Hong Kong's highest peak at 957m) before a long, punishing descent into Tuen Mun. The final kilometers wind through forest paths and paved sections to the finish line where crowds cheer runners home.
