Chiang Mai Thailand by UTMB is the Asia-Pacific Major of the UTMB World Series, held annually in December in northern Thailand since 2020. The flagship Chiang Dao 160 race covers 168 kilometers with 8,100 meters of elevation gain across four mountains, including Thailand's highest peak, Doi Inthanon, under a 48-hour cutoff. Top finishers in the 100M, 100K, and 50K categories earn direct qualification for the UTMB World Series Finals in Chamonix.

Doi Luang Chiang Dao Start
The race begins near the base of Doi Luang Chiang Dao, Thailand's second-highest mountain at 2,225 meters. The Chiang Dao massif is defined by dramatic limestone karst peaks and one of Thailand's largest cave systems.

Runners traverse the Chiang Dao Wildlife Sanctuary, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve with dense montane forest, bamboo groves, and steep ridge trails above 1,500 meters.

The course passes through Doi Inthanon National Park and over Thailand's highest peak at 2,565 meters above sea level. Twin royal chedis and elfin cloud forest characterize this high-altitude section.

A dramatic gorge section through Ob Khan National Park where the Ping River tributary cuts through narrow granite canyons. The terrain shifts to rocky creek crossings and riparian forest.

The final major mountain section traverses Doi Suthep-Pui National Park above Chiang Mai city. Runners pass through protected forest on trails descending toward the city at roughly 1,600 meters elevation.

The race finishes at the Chiang Mai Provincial Administrative Organization Park in the city. The finish line is a flat urban venue offering spectator access after over 100 miles of mountain terrain.
