Tsegaye Kebede Wordofa is an Ethiopian marathoner born on January 15, 1987, in Mekelle. Standing 1.57 meters tall, he built one of the most consistent major-marathon careers of his generation, winning London twice, Chicago once, and taking bronze medals at both the Olympics and the World Championships.
Kebede made his marathon debut at Amsterdam in 2007, finishing eighth in 2:08:16. The following year he won the Paris Marathon in 2:06:40, added the Fukuoka Marathon title in 2:06:10, and claimed bronze in the Olympic marathon in Beijing. In 2009 he finished second at the London Marathon, took world championship bronze in Berlin, and defended his Fukuoka title in 2:05:18, at the time the fastest marathon ever run in Japan.
Kebede won the 2010 London Marathon in 2:05:19 for his first World Marathon Major victory. His peak came in October 2012, when he won the Chicago Marathon in a personal best of 2:04:38. He added a second London title in 2013, winning in 2:06:04.
