THE STORY

Sisay Lemma is an Ethiopian marathon runner who won the Boston Marathon in 2024 and set the Valencia Marathon course record of 2:01:48 in 2023, ranked among the fastest marathons ever run at the time of the performance. Born on 12 December 1990, he trains in Addis Ababa under coach Gemedu Dedefo.

Lemma won the Vienna City Marathon in 2:07:31 and the Frankfurt Marathon in 2:06:26 in 2015, establishing himself at the top level of road racing. He returned to major wins in 2021 with victory at the London Marathon in 2:04:01, then broke 2:02 at Valencia in late 2023.

At Boston 2024, Lemma won in 2:06:17, running clear of the field on the point-to-point course. He withdrew from the Paris 2024 Olympics due to injury.
