Shure Demise Ware is an Ethiopian long-distance runner who specializes in the marathon and other road distances. Born on January 21, 1996, she announced herself on the international stage in January 2015 at the Dubai Marathon, where she ran a junior world record for the distance while finishing fourth overall.
Demise built much of her early reputation in Toronto. She won the Toronto Waterfront Marathon in 2015 in 2:23:37, then returned to win again in 2016 in 2:25:19. She also finished eighth at the 2015 Boston Marathon. Over the following years she remained a fixture in the World Athletics marathon rankings and represented Ethiopia at the 2019 World Athletics Championships in Doha, where she did not finish the marathon.
After more than a decade at the top level, Demise produced the best running of her career in the mid-2020s. She returned to Toronto to win the Waterfront Marathon a third time in 2025 in 2:21:03, then in April 2026 won the Paris Marathon in a personal best of 2:18:34, breaking the course record by more than a minute. The performance moved her into the world top 12 for the season and confirmed her as one of Ethiopia's most durable marathoners.
