Haftu Strintzos is an Australian marathon runner and the current Australian and Oceanian record holder at 2:06:20, set at the 2026 ASICS Gold Coast Marathon. Born in Tigray, northern Ethiopia, he moved to Melbourne at age 12 after being adopted by Maria Strintzos, an Australian aid worker. He went on to compete at Villanova University in Pennsylvania, earning a BIG EAST cross country championship under coach Marcus O'Sullivan.
After a difficult marathon debut at Valencia in December 2024, Strintzos recorded a 1:00:36 half marathon personal best before winning the 2025 Australian Marathon Championship at the TCS Sydney Marathon in 2:11:27. At the 2026 Gold Coast Marathon, he ran a negative split with a 62:49 second half, finishing in 2:06:20. The time broke the Australian record by two seconds, set a new course record, and made him the first Australian male to win the event in 20 years.
Strintzos trains with Team Tempo under coach Adam Didyk and is sponsored by ASICS.
