Dennis Kipruto Kimetto is a Kenyan marathoner who held the world record from September 2014 to September 2018. His 2:02:57 at the 2014 Berlin Marathon made him the first man to break 2:03 for the distance, a mark that stood until Eliud Kipchoge ran 2:01:39 on the same course four years later.
Kimetto came up through the training group around Geoffrey Mutai near Eldoret and rose quickly through road racing. He won the Nairobi Half Marathon in 2011, then took the RAK and Berlin half marathons in 2012, the year he also ran 1:11:18 for 25K in Berlin and set his half marathon best of 59:14.
His marathon career peaked across three seasons. He won the 2013 Tokyo Marathon in 2:06:50, added the 2013 Chicago Marathon in 2:03:45, and then broke the world record in Berlin the following autumn. He has not raced at the top level in recent years.
