Col Malatra (2,928m)
One of the most feared passes on the course, Col Malatra is often shrouded in cloud and exposed to fierce winds. In 2015, ice on this col forced race organizers to halt the event. Runners scramble over rocky terrain with fixed ropes on the steepest sections.

Rifugio Coda Life Base
At roughly the halfway point, runners pass through a series of refugios that serve as life bases where sleep, hot food, and medical checks are available. Managing rest stops at these refugios is critical to finishing within the 150-hour cutoff.

The highest point of the entire race, Col Loson demands a long approach through high-altitude alpine meadows before a steep final push above 3,000 meters. Snow and sub-zero temperatures are common even in September.
