Kodiak Ultra Marathons by UTMB is an annual multi-distance trail running event held each October in Big Bear Lake, California, at 7,000 feet in the San Bernardino Mountains. Established around 2014, it serves as the UTMB World Series Americas Major and offers a Western States Endurance Run qualifier for 100-mile and 100-kilometer finishers. The flagship 100-mile course covers 162 kilometers with 4,850 meters of elevation gain.

Start/Finish — Downtown Big Bear Lake
The race begins and ends in downtown Big Bear Lake at approximately 7,000 feet elevation. The town sits in a valley surrounded by the San Bernardino Mountains.

North Shore Trails
The course traverses Big Bear Lake's North Shore singletrack, offering views across the reservoir. This section winds through pine forest typical of the San Bernardino Mountains.

Holcomb Valley and Pacific Crest Trail
Runners pass through Holcomb Valley and pick up a section of the Pacific Crest Trail. The valley sits at around 7,500 feet and features open meadow and chaparral terrain.

Sugarloaf Mountain Summit
At 9,952 feet, Sugarloaf Mountain is the highest point on the course and one of the highest peaks in the San Bernardino Mountains. Runners gain the summit before descending back toward the valley floor.

Baldwin Lake and High Desert
The southeast section of the loop passes near Baldwin Lake, a dry alkali lake bed, and transitions into high desert terrain with Joshua trees. This marks the lowest and most exposed stretch of the course.

The course climbs back into the pine zone before descending into Big Bear Lake for the finish. The final miles retrace familiar terrain through the village area.
