Susanna Sullivan is an American marathoner and a full-time middle school math teacher in Reston, Virginia. Her balance of professional racing with a teaching career has made her one of the more distinctive stories in U.S. distance running.
At the 2024 Chicago Marathon she ran 2:21:56, taking more than two and a half minutes off her personal best, finishing seventh overall and as the top American woman. The performance ranks her among the ten fastest American women in marathon history. She had previously fractured her kneecap at the 2023 World Athletics Championships, making her Chicago breakthrough an especially notable comeback.
She trains in Reston with Capital Area Runners under coach George Buckheit.
