Santos Gabriel Rueda, known as Saga, is an Argentine ultra-trail runner based in Barcelona who holds the course record at the Val d'Aran by UTMB after his 2026 victory in 21:32:05. Born in Aguas Blancas, Salta Province, near the Bolivian border, he moved to Bariloche to study nuclear engineering at the Instituto Balseiro on a scholarship from Argentina's Atomic Energy Commission.
Rueda first gained international recognition with a 9th-place finish at the 2019 UTMB TDS in 19:31:55. He became the first Argentine to finish the 173 km UTMB Mont-Blanc in under 24 hours in 2022, and improved to 13th place in 21:59:01 at the 2023 edition. He won the Bariloche100 in 11:00:36 before heading to the Val d'Aran, where he finished more than 51 minutes ahead of runner-up Theo Soriano.
His 2026 Val d'Aran time improved the previous men's course record by 1 hour 52 minutes. Rueda balances his athletic career with work as an engineer and runs the Summit Runners Bcn coaching collective in Barcelona. He is sponsored by Columbia Sportswear.
