OTHMANE EL GOUMRI WINS 2026 HAMBURG MARATHON; KIPKOECH SETS WOMEN'S COURSE RECORD

Othmane El Goumri of Morocco won the 2026 Haspa Marathon Hamburg in 2:04:24 on April 26. Brillian Kipkoech of Kenya won the women's race in 2:17:05, setting the women's course record.
El Goumri ran with a lead pack of four men through 30 kilometers before pushing clear in the closing stretch. His 2:04:24 is among the fastest times in Hamburg's recent history and confirms his place among the top Moroccan marathoners of the cycle. The existing men's course record of 2:03:46, set by Amos Kipruto in 2025, remained intact.
Kipkoech broke the women's course record alone over the final 10 kilometers. Her 2:17:05 lowered the previous Hamburg women's mark and places her among the fastest performers of the 2026 spring marathon season worldwide.

The race ran in cool conditions out of the Messehallen start, with overcast skies through the morning. The flat course around the Alster and back through the city has built Hamburg into one of Germany's two fast spring marathons alongside Berlin's autumn date.
Kipkoech's win continues a strong Kenyan presence in Hamburg's women's race. The country has produced multiple Hamburg champions over the past decade, and her course record adds to a 2026 spring pattern across Europe in which Paris, Rotterdam, and Vienna also saw women's marks fall.
The men's race produced multiple sub-2:10 finishers, with El Goumri leading a deep field that included veteran East African marathoners and several European entries. Hamburg's elite recruitment under sponsor Haspa has built one of the deeper non-WMM marathons in Germany.
El Goumri's victory comes as he transitions from cross country and shorter road races to the marathon. The 2:04:24 establishes him as a contender for Moroccan championship and selection conversations heading into the 2027 World Athletics Championships.
The race is organized by Hamburg-Marathon GmbH and Hanseatic Sportverein. The 2027 Hamburg Marathon is expected to return on the final weekend of April. Confirmed dates and elite invitations will be released later in 2026.
